This shop update is a collection of three different firings. A 28 hour soda firing from a kiln owned by Alison Palmer, a 10 day anagama firing from a kiln named Joy Brown and a 10 hour wood/soda firing in my own coffin kiln. The soda firing hit cone 11, the anagama hit cone 10 and my coffin kiln hit cone 12 (13 on the bottom).
I am going to write more about each individual cup in this shop update and also share photos of the pots outside as well as in studio shots. Some pieces will just be outside where others will have the combination. I am trying something different this update to allow you to see the pieces in various lightings and to explain the glazes a bit more.
As always I will give you updates on ML size. We will also talk about the clay body alongside the glaze type. Because of all this, I will most likely do more individual pricing for every piece, the ones I think are extra special will be slightly more and I will let you know why I think that here. When i am measuring the ML size, i usually fill to about 85% of the actual volume, not to the brim.
About this Piece:
Chagoi are solid colored brown or bronze koi with a subtle reticulated net pattern. Although they are not nearly as flashy or colorful as other types of koi, Chagoi are still a welcome addition to koi ponds. Because of their close genetic relationship with wild carp, Chagoi are some of the friendliest and most docile koi available.
This piece is made from black clay (standard 378) with Fredrickson Shino on top. This was then fired in my wood/soda kiln for 10 hours to cone 12/13.
